A SCOPING REVIEW ON THE EFFECT OF LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT STYLES ON STUDENT PERFORMANCE: PROBLEMSOLVING TECHNIQUES PERSPECTIVE

Abstract

This study aims to provide a scoping review of how leadership and management styles affect student performance by considering problem-solving techniques in the context of education. In this context, various articles relating to the subject were reviewed. A scoping review process was done following the main approach of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) and methodological framework. As a result of this review, the study established that both leadership and management styles play an important role in creating a conducive learning environment and shaping the overall educational experience for students. The combination of leadership and management styles has a profound impact on how students approach and engage in problem-solving techniques or skills. Most of the articles were published in the last 5 years (2018 -2023) with the majority of the authors being affiliates from the United States of America, Pakistan and Nigeria respectively. It was established from this review that both leadership and management styles play an important role in creating a conducive learning environment and shaping the overall educational experience for students. A positive and supportive leadership style, combined with facilitative management, tends to foster an environment where students feel empowered to explore new ideas, take risks and develop their problem-solving skills. On the other hand, leadership styles, such as autocratic management and laissez-faire leadership, may hinder student performance by limiting their opportunities for growth and stifling creativity
